BULAWAYO Metropolitan Province Bodybuilding and Fitness Association will host the Mr Western Area 2015 bodybuilding tournament at Sizinda Hall on Saturday. GRACE CHIRANGANDE SPORTS CORRESPONDENT
Chairperson of the association, John Mhangwa, said the contest would be aimed at discovering talent in the sport.
“The competition is about bodybuilding and it is the first of its kind in 10 years. We aim at scouting talent form the western areas because there is a lot of talent out there,” Mhangwa said.
He said all bodybuilders were free to enter the competition.
“We are particularly targeting tpeople who train at three gymnasiums that is West Tshaka, Imbizo, and Sizinda and others who train at homes. The entrance fee is $5 per individual and we expect people to attend the event as it is meant for Bulawayo,” Mhangwa said.
The Bulawayo body building group aims at reviving the sport in 2015. He said they were aiming at increasing the number of contests in Bulawayo as a way of assisting athletes to sharpen themselves.
“I think we need more competitions within the province as they would give athletes an opportunity to refine themselves instead of going to compete nationally without having had the chance to see at what level they are locally. We are going to host the Mr Bulawayo contest in May,” he said.
Bodybuilders from the province did well last year with Lovemore Munyamana emerging tops in the lightweight category at the Mr Zimbabwe contest that was hosted by Harare.
