TWO Khami prison inmates were yesterday arraigned before the courts facing charges of engaging in homosexuality in their prison cells, after they were caught red-handed by another inmate.

PRESTIGE GAMA OWN CORRESPONDENT Christopher Jani and Mbonisi Ncube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Chipumha Dube where they were charged for engaging in acts of sodomy. They both pleaded guilty to the charge.

They were remanded in custody as serving convicts to March 30 for trial. In his defence, Jani told the court that they were caught naked, but there was no evidence of them engaging in anal sex.

“We never had anal sex, we just covered ourselves with a blanket as naked as we were,” Jani said.

Ncube remained quiet and just admitted that he was guilty of the charge.

“I admit to the allegations levelled against me,” he said.

Prosecutor Mufaro Mageza said the two convicts were serving a jail term for rape.

Mageza told the court that on March 13 the two were caught having sexual intercourse in the early hours of the morning. It is reported that the two had been seen earlier in the day striking a deal, which left their cellmate, Edgar Majazi, suspicious of what was going on. Majazi said he failed to sleep after being suspicious of the deal between the two.

“I saw Jani approaching Ncube’s blankets at around 3am and I pretended to be asleep,” Majazi said. “They talked and Ncube stood up to go to the toilet where he came back naked as Jani checked if I was still awake,” he testified.

After a few minutes the two covered themselves with a blanket before Majazi suspected they were having sex. Majazi uncovered them and called other prisoners.

Alarm was raised, attracting prison officers.
