Amos, who was due to turn 70 in May, passed away at the United Bulawayo Hospitals on Saturday night after succumbing to heart failure.

Benjani’s mother, Sithabile, yesterday confirmed that burial of her late husband had provisionally been set for Saturday.

“All is in place. We are just waiting for the arrival of Benjani. He (Amos) will be buried at West Park on Saturday, but that will depend on the arrival of Benjani. When we spoke to him he said he was leaving England today (yesterday) and will arrive in South Africa tomorrow and before flying to Zimbabwe. But we don’t know his travel arrangements from South Africa. We might say he is booked for tomorrow and yet that may not be the case,” a grieving Sithabile said.

Amos was born in Malawi on May 4 1945 and was the last born in a family of two boys and a girl.

His sister has since passed away.

He arrived in Zimbabwe in the 1970s and settled in Headlands before moving to Bulawayo in 1976 where he worked at Datlabs and retired in 1996.

Amos leaves behind widow Sithabile, two sons and two daughters and six grandchildren.

Mourners are gathered at Number 103 Percy Avenue, Hillside.
