MEMBERS of the Transport and General Workers’ Union (TGWU) have accused management at Road Motor Services (RMS) of misleading Transport minister Obert Mpofu into believing that the parastatal was operating smoothly and up to date with employees’ salaries.

The union said it was jolted to respond after Mpofu last week publicly announced that management at RMS had informed him that the parastatal was financially stable.

RMS is a former subsidiary of National Railways of Zimbabwe which now operates separately.

TGWU deputy secretary-general Wilson Dube yesterday said contrary to Mpofu’s claims, the company’s 70 trucks were grounded with workers owed 14 months’ salaries.

“Mpofu claimed RMS is doing well, that is not true,” Dube said.

“As it is, workers are owed 12 months’ salaries for 2013 to 2014 and two months in 2015.

“This translates to 14 months’ arrears.

This year they were not paid for March and April so why is the minister saying RMS is doing well.

This shows that he is being misinformed by the management.”

Dube said the workers had taken their salary grievances for arbitration.
