WORKERS at a Bulawayo company have accused a war veteran workmate of abusing his two-year-old daughter by driving her to his workplace every day and leaving her locked up in his car at the company’s parking bay.

They claimed the war veteran, identified as Gumbo, had been doing this since March this year and turned hostile when his colleagues advised him to stop the practice.

“Gumbo has been coming to work with his daughter since we opened this year and if we try and advise him on the issue, he threatens us with disappearance and at times death since he is war veteran,” a worker who declined to be named said.

Gumbo confirmed the development yesterday, saying he found it difficult to introduce the child to his family as she was born out of wedlock.

“I lost my first wife (the child’s mother) in March this year and it is difficult for me to send her to my new wife as she does not know about her,” Gumbo said.

“It is difficult for me to just introduce her to my family. I love children, but it is unfortunate that God did not give me many children.

“Yes, I lock her up because there is no one I can leave her with, but next week, I will send her to her grandmother in the Midlands province.”
