New Delhi – Location services have never been a strong hold for Apple. The company’s mapping service is also rarely used. The Cupertino Giant is trying to make necessary changes and following that it has acquired a company called Coherent Navigation, as per reports from MacRumours. The acquired company boasts of a strong location detecting technology that is said to be accurate within 3-5 meters.

As the name suggests the company deals with location and navigation services. It was founded in 2008 and since then has been focussing on a specific range of navigation technologies. They have partnered with industry giants like Boeing and Iridium.

Apple has not expressed its intentions regarding the acquisition, but the company will probably include the start-up’s research in its ongoing projects or develop an entirely new service with the help of their expertise.

Apple has been acquiring various location technology services since the past six years in an apparent bid to decrease the users’ dependence on Google Maps. The Cupertino giant started its mapping operations by acquiring Placebase in 2009 which was followed by other minor acquisitions which included Locationary and Hopstop.
