Jele was recently granted permission to buy 3,5500 hectares of land valued at $12 600 from council.

Council’s director of engineering services Simela Dube recently told the town, lands and planning committee that Jele’s project had received council approval.

“The proposed Stand 9434 Emganwini Township was as depicted on TPA8249 and measuring 3,5500 hectares in extent. It was located at the southern part of Emganwini Township bordered by the Bulawayo-Plumtree Railway Line,” Dube said.

The application attracted no objections when it was circulated to municipal departments and other service organisations.

Jele joins scores of other councillors who have applied to lease land in various wards to operate car parks and nutrition gardens among other income-generating projects to benefit the constituents.

Bulawayo deputy mayor Gift Banda was recently granted permission to buy 3,5 hectares of land at a cost of $130 000 for construction of residential flats at Ascot Race Course.

According to the Bulawayo Operative Master Plan, the piece of land applied for is zoned as Residential Buildings (Flats or attached dwellings) as such there would be no town planning objections to the proposals.
