The woman, identified as Senzeni Sibanda, was found lying in a pool of blood amid indications she might have been killed by a client who had sought her services. The deceased was reportedly last seen on Wednesday evening accompanied by a male well known in the area.

Her body was discovered by schoolchildren.

According to a police detective, traces of blood along the road leading to the police station suggested her attacker followed her and attacked her as she bled presumably on her way to the police station.

“We suspect that the deceased might have quarrelled with her client, fled the scene only to be followed and attacked on her way to the police station, hence the blood trail on the path leading to the station,” one police detective, requesting not to be named as he was not authorized to speak to the Press, said.

The deceased appeared to be have been struck with a sharp object in the forehead, leaving her face disfigured, with the skin peeling off.

“l last saw Sibanda on Wednesday night at the local night club in the company of a regular client we all know. When l left the club she was drunk and l was shocked to learn of her death this morning (yesterday),” a distraught Cindrella Moyo said.

When Southern Eye arrived at the scene, some of Sibanda’s colleagues were milling around the place assisting the police with identifying the murderer. Vusani Sibanda, younger brother to the deceased, said he had last seen her on Monday and the family had no idea who could have killed her.

“l last saw my sister on Monday and this shocks me. I am totally in disbelief and l hope the police would be able to arrest the culprit soon,” he said.

Abigail Mupambi of Progress Co-ordinating Trust said such callous incidents should not be accepted in the Nyathi community.

“We are deeply touched by this accident which has occurred in our area.

It raises some concern as this woman was found a few metres from the police station. Something must be done so that we have a safe neighbourhood,” Mupambi added.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Meanwhile, a Grade Zero Ingubo Primary School pupil was knocked down by a fast moving kombi along Siyephambili Road on Wednesday evening between Njube and Lobengula.

The deceased was in the company of an aunt and brother. The brother crossed the road running and the deceased followed resulting in him being hit.

The accident happened at five in the evening and by eight pm the body had not been collected, with the mother still sitting next to her child. The aunt of the deceased, Sichelesile Mdlitshizwa, said they had been coming from a relative in New Lobengula and when they were about to cross the road the brother to the deceased ran ahead with the child quickly following, resulting in the knock down.

“We were coming from a relative in New Lobengula and when we got to the main road his brother crossed the road running and the boy followed, but unfortunately was hit by the kombi driving from Emakhandeni suburb,” she said.
