The accident happened at the intersection of Joshua Nkomo Street and 11th Avenue yesterday.
Levi Young, the survivor, was driving a Toyota Surf coming from Zimbabwe Revenue Authority headed towards Belmont Industries when he was involved in the accident with the Honda Fit.
The Toyota was hit on the left side and went airborne – flying over another Honda Fit giving way to other motorists – before landing on its roof. The Honda had five passengers including a seven-month old baby. The driver of the Honda Fit ran away from the scene.
“All I recall is the car upside down. The Honda Fit came from my right side. It is my birthday today and I do not know what is going on,” Young told Southern Eye.
One of the passengers in the Honda Fit, Precious Ndlovu, said she boarded the vehicle at Pelandaba. Passengers had cautioned the driver against over speeding.
“The Honda Fit was coming from Pumula. I boarded it at Pelandaba and told him to reduce speed as he was driving fast. I doubt if he had a driver’s licence,” Ndlovu said.

An eye witness, Sidney Mhlanga, said he saw the Toyota flying over a Honda Fit and landing on its roof.
“I saw a car flying over a Honda Fit and it landed on its roof a few metres away,” Mhlanga said.
Accidents are becoming an eyesore in the Bulawayo central business district, despite speed limits that should normally apply to the city centre.
