The council hired the company last year to lay sewer pipes at a new site earmarked for the town’s expansion programme. The company took legal action after the council failed to pay for services rendered and ignored the summons sent by the court.

Some of the attached vehicles were acquired early this year for top managers at $65 000 each. A councillor who declined to be named accused town secretary Charles Muchatukwa of failing to properly handle the matter, leading to the attachment of council vehicles.

“As councillors we made a resolution during a full council meeting that the money must be paid. I fail to understand why management failed to pay the debt, moreso I don’t know why they failed to give the summons to the lawyer,” he said.

Town chairman Francis Moyo reffered all the questions to Muchatukwa who was said to be attending a crucial court case at High Court in Harare. Muchatukwa could not be reached for comment on his mobile phone.
