A 32-year-old Victoria Falls man who raped his 95-year-old grandmother on three separate occasions has been slapped with a 15-year jail term.

The man from the Jambezi area who cannot be identified to protect the identity of the victim was convicted and sentenced on his own plea of guilty to the rape charge when he appeared before Hwange magistrate Dambudzo Malunga last week.
Grilled by prosecutor Tawanda Sigauke on the allegations, the man said his grandmother was the one who seduced him into the act. He claimed the sexual escapades started last year but she only reported him to police this year after he spited her once.
The suspect’s sister who was a witness in the matter left the court in stitches when she said: “I do not know how such a young man could find such an old woman who has since lost sexual appetite, sexually attractive.”
The court heard that the old woman and her rapist grandson stayed together in Chief Shana’s area in Jambezi. Sometime in June this year, the man stormed his grandmother’s bedroom hut at night and raped her once. He raped her again during the same month.
This month, the man dragged her into the nearby bush where he raped her once. On July 8 at 9pm, the man went to his grandmother’s home and promised to return to her with some money.
On the same day, the old woman left home and spent the night at her younger sister’s home in the same village. She told a local village head about the rape and the village head reported the matter to the police, leading to the man’s arrest.
