A GWANDA couple has sought the intervention of Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs minister, Abednico Ncube in a bid to evict Sport, Arts and Culture minister, Andrew Langa and his Israeli business partners from Eric 21, Trianic Investments gold mine in Insiza district.

Langa was sucked into the mine ownership wrangle with a Filabusi couple — Nqobile Tshuma and Francisca Mufambi — after he was allegedly fraudulently given shares in the mine by Israelis Reoven Meyer Dray and Avi Habot. Dray and Habot had initially partnered with Khumalo and Mufambi before ditching them when Langa came into the picture.

The couple then approached the Bulawayo High Court which granted them a provisional order barring the Israelis from interfering with operations at the mine.

High Court judges Justice Nokuthula Moyo, Justice Martin Makonese and Justice Maxwell Takuva ruled in their favour, but Langa and his business partners allegedly ignored the orders.

In a letter dated August 13 addressed to Ncube and copied to the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development and the police, the couple through their lawyer Norman Mugiya, expressed fear that their rivals could loot the mine assets and even sell it without their knowledge.

“We wish to advise that your office should not accept any changes to the mine until and unless there is a court order to that effect,” Mugiya said.

“For avoidance of doubt, we attach hereto the copy of the order referred to the above for your perusal. We also request your good office to assist our client by ensuring that there is no illegal mining at the time or and the abuse of the mine properties by the purported new owners albeit without title.”

Ncube and Langa could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
