The nurse stumbled upon packets of drugs that included antiretrovirals while cleaning the house.
The man (name supplied) who is employed as a driver by Blanket Mine, had denied the charge of knowingly transmitting HIV, but was convicted by regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza due to overwhelming evidence.
He will, however, spend an effective five years in jail after three years were wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.
State prosecutor Johannes Tlou said sometime in August 2013 the man married the complainant (name supplied) aged 35.
In February last year, the woman underwent an HIV test and the results were negative.
