It was also not immediately clear when he was hospitalised.

Ndlovu, a keen Highlanders Football Club supporter, last made a public appearance at the team’s match at Barbourfields Stadium on August 30.

A Southern Eye news crew was yesterday blocked from entering the ward he is in by a family member during the mid-morning visiting time. “You want to see Dr Ndlovu? As you can see, there are several people queuing to also get a chance to see him. You won’t be able to do so,” said a relative at the entrance of the intensive care wing.

Security was beefed up at the intensive care unit waiting room, where visitors were being screened before being allowed to see the former Information minister.

About 10 people waited patiently for their turn, amid reports that pastors from the Lutheran Church had also visited and prayed for his recovery on Monday.

A few months ago, Ndlovu claimed that in terms of seniority, he was second to President Robert Mugabe.

Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairman, Dennis Ndlovu could not be reached for comment.
