BY LUYANDUHLOBO MAKWATI Scores of people drawn from across several wards in the district thronged the venue to witness the awards ceremony while others came from as far as Bulawayo.

The event, officially opened by Women, Youth and Gender Affairs deputy minister Abigail Damasane, was held under the theme “My Beautiful Home”.

More than 30 women drawn from several wards in the district left the venue with material prizes.

Renowned historian Phathisa Nyathi thanked women for their artistic expressions that culminated in the holdings of the event.

“If it was not for you our mothers in this area we were not going to hold this function. We would like to thank you for your support and participation in this competition as we are working to preserve our traditional art,” he said.

Damasane thanked organisers and everyone who contributed to the event’s success.

“We are very elated by this and we hope this will motivate more women to take part in the competition and see the need of improving their homes,” she said.

Sinini Moyo, one of the winners, said she was grateful to the centre for the competition.
