A medical report produced in court suggested that the nurse could have been infected with HIV.

Prosecutor Petronellah Ngwenya told the court that on August 1 this year, Nyathi and her husband Godfrey Zulu were in ward PICU at Mpilo when their child passed away.

After the child was declared dead, the nurse took the child’s parents for counselling before one S Khumalo broke the news. Nyathi allegedly got confused and tried to run away, but was stopped by the nurse.

She allegedly went to the ward where the child’s body was and started weeping and then went back to the room where the nurse was and threw a used injection needle at him, stabbing him on the right cheek.
