The case was heard by Filabusi magistrate Mzingaye Moyo this week, when the suspect Brian Siziba appeared before him charged with assault.

Siziba (24) pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, with the option of a $100 fine. He was also sentenced to 45 days in jail, which was wholly suspended for two years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard on September 12 this year that Tinomutenda Msipho (33) was at a local bar drinking beer when he was approached by Siziba accusing him of stealing gold at his mine.

Siziba then grabbed an empty beer bottle and struck Msipho once on the left eye. Msipho fell and Siziba went on to kick him all over his body.

Msipho is said to have sustained injuries on the eye and ear as a result of the assault and was rushed to Filabusi District Hospital for treatment, leading to Siziba’s arrest.
