Constable Felix Sangu (29) was last month acquitted for lack of evidence after the court said the State had failed to prove a prima facie case against him.

On Tuesday, Sangu was back in court on a charge of assaulting fellow police officer Good Jeremia during a police parade on September 9 this year.

The State alleges that a brawl broke out after Jeremia quizzed Sangu for failing to bring his bicycle to the parade in accordance with the police’s code of conduct.

This did not go down well with Sangu, who allegedly became violent and insulted Jeremia, before punching him twice on the chest.

He further pushed him against the flower vessel before threatening to burn his house and car.

Jeremia allegedly sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Mpilo Hospital for medication.

However, Sangu denied the assault charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Merylin Mutshina.

The matter was remanded to today for continuation of trial.
