Moyo, who won the title with Bosso, yesterday said he watched Highlanders lose 3-1 to Caps United at the National Sports Stadium and he is not convinced the team will be able to accumulate the 13 points that will ensure safety, but will benefit from other teams also dropping points.

Highlanders on position 10 with 28 points, need 13 points in the last six games to reach 41 to ensure absolute safety.

Their fight for survival continues this weekend when they host struggling Dongo Sawmills at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Since parting ways with Bongani Mafu following poor run, Highlanders under new gaffer Amini Soma-Phiri has lost two times to Caps United and Harare City in the capital and were unconvincing in their 1-0 win over Flame Lily at home.

“Highlanders will not be relegated. Something will happen to those teams at the bottom, but getting 13 points under the circumstances will be difficult. I watched them play against Caps United and those boys don’t have what it takes. They cannot grind the results. Mentally, those boys have given up and their body language says it all,” Moyo said.

He said it is difficult to judge the coaches, who took over from Mafu, in just three weeks.

“Look at Dynamos, they also changed a coach, but can you say that Tonderai Ndiraya is a better coach? Even if they had put Murape Murape, those boys would still grind the results. It’s hard to judge these guys (Soma-Phiri and Cosmas Zulu) in three weeks. Maybe the players have not fully accepted them. I think when Mafu was sacked, one person from the previous technical team, who was in the system, should have been retained,” the former Zimbabwe international said.

“It’s not pleasant for a big brand like Highlanders to be fighting relegation. You can’t be fighting relegation when you are playing for Highlanders. It’s high time these boys focused on playing football and respect Highlanders as a brand. These boys have to make their own history.”

The former Soccer Star of the Year and Top Goal scorer award winner won the league title under Rahman Gumbo, before he left the country.
