‘Let us say Grace’

By layman’s definition, politics is a science or art of governance that aims to influence other people. Political interplay is bound by basic laws of physics even though some people argue that politics can defy nature at will. Like nature, politics abhors vacuums. Naturally where there is a political void, mayhem and confusion set in.

Zimbabwe’s political landscape is in a state of agitation as the natural urge to avoid a vacuum is at play. The country has been slowly sliding towards a state of political vacuum due to President Robert Mugabe’s political sterility. The journey to a State of void has been exacerbated by the people’s passivity and docility. As the country approaches a state of political vacuum, nature has sought to restore the balance by appointing willing players to fill in the gap before the critical state of vacuum is reached.

Mugabe is solely responsible for this uncertain political situation through his failure to exercise legitimate control over the affairs of the country. Such is expected when a President spends many years sleeping on his political job. Mugabe is enjoying the state of confusion as he contemplates the after-life. One discerns that Mugabe wants to create a sense of him having been the best that ever was for Zimbabwe as people recall his good reign with nostalgia.

There is no denying that his slumber of many years has precipitated the current political turmoil. It is only natural that some of the country’s political players are attempting to fill in the pending void. Sadly, there are some who are simply afraid to take advantage of the situation because Mugabe has instilled godly fear in their hearts. There are others who would have declared their interests were it not for the disorganisation within their political turf.

Enter Comrade Doctor Amai Grace Mugabe. So far, only Grace has gathered some courage to subtly declare her interest in the throne. Grace has made enough noises to show that she intends to be the one who plugs the hole that would otherwise be unfilled should Mugabe go. Grace has taken advantage of her association with Mugabe to boldly announce her ambitions. The First Lady is well endowed with knowledge about Mugabe’s weaknesses and fallibilities. Grace knows Mugabe’s mental receptiveness.

Above all, Grace has discovered that political players are either gripped by fear or overcome by indifference to declare their interest in the throne. Grace has now reached the decision that by hook or crook, the crown will be hers. Henceforth, Grace will subvert the law with impunity to achieve the goal she has set herself. Her recent misappropriation of State resources including some items donated to the government of Zimbabwe to use as gifts for villagers proves the point.

There is near-prophecy from a verse in Romans 6 vs 14 that warns: “For sin shall not have dominion over you; for you are not under the law, but under Grace.” Indeed the verse makes sense. The government’s money is now for Grace to use as she wants. Our earthly Grace has assumed the role of Robin Hood as she robs the State to “buy” support from villagers around the districts. By the nature of their demographic classification, villagers are perpetually in times of need. In typical prophetic irony, Hebrews 4vs16 advises: “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” In this prophecy the operative terms are throne, Grace and time of need.

Grace has the throne almost at her reach now. All she needs is for one or two of the powerful men in the armed forces to come out clean and declare their support for her ascendancy to the almost vacant throne. Clearly the so-called securocrats are biding their time, only just. It will not be long before they start singing the “Vanhu Vose Kuna Amai” tune. Should one of the generals declare his support for the First Lady, others will just follow on the belief that it is Zanu PF’s official line.

As far as the grassroots are concerned, Grace continues to take care of villagers in areas that matter. She is doing the groundwork for her to get an automatic berth in the presidential race. She has unlimited access to State funds to steamroll her whirlwind campaign for the undeclared vacancy.

Villagers are already getting conditioned to the new slogan “Vanhu Vose Kuna Amai”. The people in the villages are enjoying the freebies; a tractor here, a suit for the chief there and money for everyone everywhere.

Biblical verses continue to portend good fortunes for Grace. The second book of 2 Timothy 4 vs 22 implores: “The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit and Grace be with you. Amen.” Yes, Grace will be with us as she sits on the throne. We need to act now in anticipation of the power vacuum.
