THE opposition Zapu has expressed concern over the alleged grabbing of State land in Matabeleland South by people from other provinces with strong connections to Zanu PF.

In an interview with Southern Eye yesterday, Zapu spokesperson, Iphuthile Maphosa said the party will hold two rallies in Matobo North and Mangwe at the weekend to address the thorny issue.
“We will not watch people intimidating our supporters and we will make sure that our people benefit from their land without being intimidated and told which party to support,” he said.
Maphosa said they were not against the land reform programme, but wanted land in the region to benefit local people.
“The trend is worrying as people are systematically being displaced from their areas because others use their Zanu PF links. Land must be given to deserving people and not on party lines.
“We strongly believe that it should be done to benefit those who deserve it, that is the local people, bearing in mind that the locals will have children who will make up the next generation.”
