“We are due to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the conferment of the City of Bulawayo. Therefore, the city will be holding a service of prayer and thanksgiving at the Large City Hall,” She said.

The celebrations come at a time the city, which used to be the country’s industrial hub, has been hard hit by de-industrialisation after most of its firms either closed shop due to economic meltdown or relocated to other cities.

Mpofu said despite the economic challenges, the city still maintains its ambitious target to become a leader in local governance excellence with a vibrant economy by 2024.
