Chihwayi, popularly known as Fido, was a teacher at Vubwe Secondary School near Keyara. Tragedy struck when they were coming back from Masase Mission Hospital, where they had rushed a pregnant woman who was almost due.
The incessant rains that pounded part of the Midlands Province last week also swept away a bridge at Mutenderende River in Chirumanzu ward 7, leaving villagers cut off from the rest of the district.
Area councillor Taruvinga Duvai said the bridge was washed away on Friday following heavy rains.
Duvai also said Hama Clinic and several homesteads in the area had their roofs blown away by the hailstorm.
“I can confirm that a bridge near Hama Clinic was washed away on Friday following heavy rains,” Duvai said.
“The clinic’s roof was also blown away with several homes destroyed.”
