A HARARE commuter omnibus driver has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for evading traffic cops who wanted to arrest him for negligent driving.

The convict Tapiwa Kaseke (28) pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya.

Kasekere will, however, serve 24 months after the remaining 12 were suspended by the magistrate.

Prosecutor Farayi Makuyana said on April 29, Kaseke was reversing a Nissan caravan at Robert Mugabe and Angwa street when he was approached by traffic cops for negligent driving.

Kaseke jumped out of the vehicle which was in motion, resulting in it hitting a traffic light pole and two other cars.

One of the cars was left with a shattered windscreen and damaged roof.

The other vehicle had its right fender, bumper, and bonnet damaged.
