Gogo Chihoro sponsors city  modelling, fashion show

Gogo Chihoro has broken barriers  by becoming one of the few traditional leaders to financially support a modelling and fashion show.

RENOWNED traditional healer, Gogo Chihoro has broken barriers  by becoming one of the few traditional leaders to financially support a modelling and fashion show.

The event, dubbed Mapresser Glam and Fashion Show First Summer Edition is scheduled for Bulawayo on October 4 at Impala Conference Centre.

Gogo Chihoro came as a surprise in offering financial support to the first edition of the summer show, which for the past four years has been taking place annually in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The summer edition’s founder Mapresser, whose real name is Promise Sibanda, said theirs was a unique fashion show which offers to support the girl child in the Matabeleland region regardless of background.

“After we realised that many pageants only prefer tall and slim ladies for their shows we then sat down and decided that we should at least be different and accommodate everyone,” Sibanda said.

“We don’t choose whether you are slim, fat…we said everyone should wear glamorously as per our theme which is Glamorous and Classy.

“We don’t even care how one walks on the runway.”

He added: “This is more of a social cohesion, networking bringing stakeholders together.

“It’s called the summer edition because we have a winter edition which also takes place every year.”

Mapresser said the financial support they received from Gogo Chihoro came in handy.

“We were also struggling on cameras and live streaming and she chipped in at the right time, a development which we feel is going to go a long way in supporting our girls and the success of the event since it’s our first time hosting it here in Bulawayo.”

Gogo Chihoro’s spokesperson, Sibonginkosi Maphosa, said the traditional healer felt obligated to be part of the Summer Show in Bulawayo.

“We saw that it was quite necessary to be part of this event seeing the fact that, uGogo Chihoro not only helps people traditionally,” she said.

“She is also a philanthropist; she is looking after many orphans here in Bulawayo, Harare and beyond.

“This was also a gesture to show her love for the people of Matabeleland since she has been helping them for some time now.”

Away from supporting the arts, Gogo Chihoro’s works have changed lives of those who believe in the spiritual world.

Various testimonies of her exploits from across the country and beyond speak for themselves.

Gogo Chihoro is in Bulawayo every Saturday and Harare every week and in Masvingo every Sunday.

Outside her traditional exploits that have impacted many, Gogo Chihoro is a successful business woman with interests in various sectors.
