A nominee for last year’s National Arts and Merits Awards (Nama), Dube is also a writer and coaches young and upcoming poets.

“I love commenting about social life and my inspiration and ideas come from how people live their lives,” Dube, who describes herself as a social commentator, said. “Presently I am working on a script for my own sitcom.”

She has performed across the country and has also represented Zimbabwe in the United Kingdom, Botswana and Zambia. Last week she was in South Africa where she shared the stage with South African poets at an event that featured popular musicians Big Nuz and DJ Tira.

Dube has featured in a number of stage productions, films and radio productions as an actress.

She was part of the cast of the local sitcom King’s Kraal, Nyaminyami — yet to be released —Choose Mazikhethela, uSuku, an award winning film and also in a production titled The Gentleman.

Dube said she draws inspiration from South African female poet Ntsiki Mazwai and dub poet Albert Nyathi.

“I advise other women that it is not impossible for women to venture into poetry.  It is labelled a man’s field. As women we should be able to tell our own story be it love, domestic violence, wealth, marriage or children,” she said.

Dube said she started poetry in the 1990s and at first she never took it seriously.

The 38-year-old Dube did high school education at Magwegwe High and later at Ebukhanyeni High School in Nkayi. She made an impromptu, but scintillating performance at a cocktail party in celebration of the launch of Southern Eye at Nesbitt Castle on Monday night where she left guests asking for more.
