Tsholotsho villagers are seeking donor assistance to help in the building of a community clinic in Jowa village, 135km from Tsholotsho business centre.

In an interview with NewsDay yesterday, a representative of the villagers, Hebert Sikhosana, said residents of Jowa community had decided to build a community clinic after realising that people in the area faced difficulties in accessing medical attention.

“There are not enough clinics in the area and it is disheartening to note that some villagers have to travel 23km to the nearest clinic if they are not feeling well,” he said.

Sikhosana said with enough funding from donors to build the community clinic, villagers will be given much hope in easily accessing medical care.

“So far we have only managed to lay the concrete foundation for the clinic with the amounts of $1 that we collect from each homestead every month, but the money is still not enough to build the clinic,” he said.

Sikhosana said the community was appealing for local and international donors who can help them build the clinic, meant to improve the situation at Jowa community.

“We would appreciate it if donors would assist us with anything such as contributing any amount of money, donating bags of cement or donating building materials for the project,” he said.

He said the building of the clinic had stalled due to lack of funding after the government had given them the land to build the clinic.

“The government gave us the space four years ago, but we still need enough funding to complete the project,” he said.

“So far we have received help from the government, which gave us 98 bags of cement with the CDF funds and Habakkuk Trust that donated 100 bags of cement for the project.”

Sikhosana said if the project received enough funding from donors, there was hope the clinic could be completed this year.
