MASVINGO — Spirit Embassy founder Uebert Angel Madzanire’s sister Mercy Madzanire Nongera lost her bid to represent Masvingo Central constituency after she lost the MDC-T primary elections on Saturday. The primaries were held at Mashate business centre.

Although details on the outcome of the poll were not readily available, Southern Eye is reliably informed that Allan Moyo won the primaries by a small margin of 13 votes. In second place was Innocent Munazo, while Hardlife Janyure and Nongera came third and fourth respectively.
The Masvingo Central seat became open for primaries after the incumbent Jeffreyson Chitando indicated he would not seek re-election.
Chitando said he wanted to move “a gear up politically” as he intends to be a senator.
Nongera’s candidacy had created waves countrywide because of her famous sibling who rose to fame early this year after he claimed he could produce “miracle” money.
The prosperity gospel evangelist also claims that he can perform various miracles and make prophesies, some of which have come to pass. Nongera is the seventh born out of nine children in Angel’s family of Chivamba village, Chief Bota in Zaka.
Meanwhile, more MDC-T MDC bigwigs failed to get confirmation to stand as candidates in Masvingo during the weekend elections.

Notable casualties included provincial organising secretary Ernest Mudavanhu, who failed to be confirmed in Zaka North constituency.
Provincial spokesperson, Harrison Mudzuru also failed to make it in Zaka Central, while Chiredzi West MP Moses Mare will also go back to the drawing board in party primaries.
Provincial Youth chair and Gutu Central MP, Oliver Chirume, also found the going tough as he also failed to get confirmation.
Chirume garnered 220 “Yes” votes against 289 “No” votes.
Masvingo Urban legislator and Youth deputy minister Tongai Matutu won by a slight margin after getting 275 “Yes” votes against 222 “No” votes.
Other MPs confirmed in Masvingo are Ransome Makamure (Gutu East), Janhi Vharandini Makuku (Bikita South) Festus Dumbu (Zaka West), Heya Shoko (Bikita West).
In Masvingo West, Harare-based businessman Takanayi Mureyi sailed through uncontested after all the other challengers withdrew from the race, including the sitting MP Tichaona Chiminya Mharadze.
Mharadze said he was passing on the baton and refuted allegations that he had chickened out fearing competition.
In other primaries held in constituencies where there are no sitting MDC-T MPs, James Gumbi won in Zaka East while in Chivi North Bernard Chiondegwa trounced John Huruva, brother to sitting Zanu PF MP Tranos Huruva.
