Revellers cried foul over the closure of bars at the heart of the resort town.

Victoria Falls town central business district used to have four bars, Hunters, Zi Pub, Shoe-strings and Wild Action bar, housed at Kingdom Hotel. But Shoe-Strings and Wild Action have since shut down.

“As entertainment lovers, we are worried with the way these bars are closing. We are not sure whether it is the issue of rentals, but all that we are seeing is that bars are closing and the night life in the town in fast dying,” Victor Dlamini, a resident, said. A local disc jockey Muziwethu Ncube said one of the bars that remained open did not cater for local tastes.

“Their music only suits tourists and local people do not appreciate their taste and as a result people now have limited places to go to,” he said.

Some of the night lovers said the rate at which up-market pubs and bars were closing was a cause for concern, especially with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General assembly set for the resort town in August beckoning.
