THE Mthwakazi Youth Leaders’ Joint Resolution (MYLJR) has accused the inclusive government of failing to address Gukurahundi issues

THE Mthwakazi Youth Leaders’ Joint Resolution (MYLJR) has accused the inclusive government of failing to address Gukurahundi issues during its five-year tenure. Report by Pamela Mhlanga

In a statement yesterday, MYLJR spokesperson Ndodana Moyo said the coalition government had failed to fulfil its mandate to tackle critical issues affecting the people of Matabeleland, including demands for compensation and bringing the perpetrators of the Gukurahundi genocide to book.

Moyo said in 2008, the people of Matabeleland had thrown their support onto the opposition presidential candidates, making their intention known to the world that they were no longer interested in being governed by a “ruthless dictatorship”, responsible for the genocide, but to their surprise, the MDC-T had betrayed the people of Matabeleland.

“Upon winning elections, the MDC-T party quickly and without delay started insulting the people of Matabeleland,” he charged.

“During its campaigns, the MDC — in all its formations and manifestations divided and united — promised heaven and earth to the people of Mthwakazi.

However, it is after five years that we hear them speaking about the compensation of the victims of genocide.”

Moyo also said Zanu PF had also shown no remorse for its actions, openly dismissed the genocide and arresting anyone who talked about it.

“On February 13, a pseudo-government of national unity was formed under the Global Political Agreement after a botched and highly controversial election,” he said.

Moyo said in its lifespan, the inclusive government was supposed to tackle important issues that have remained critical to the development of both the people of Zimbabwe.

“The government did not in any way fulfil its mandate. It’s failure to address Gukurahundi has been a boiling point of a silent conflict and bitterness that is also a time bomb and serious ground for counter genocide and repeat genocide,” he charged.
