A 32 year old woman in Hwange drowned on Monday while attempting to cross a flooded river, police have confirmed.
Report by Blondie Ndebele
Matabeleland North acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said the incident happened around 6pm.
She identified the deceased as Nurse Mugombe of Peter Munkuli’s homestead in Kachenjela Village 3 under chief Pashu in Kamativi. Makonese said Mugombe was with her husband Munkuli (49) and his second wife Elizabeth Mudimba (34) from beer drinking when the incident happened.
“When they got to Nyakapande River, Munkuli and Mudimba went to a garden about 100m down the river away from the crossing point while Mugombe remained at the crossing point alone,” she said.
Makonese said Munkuli and Mudimba were hoping that Mugombe was already at home and had started preparing a meal for that evening.
However when they got home, they could not find her and they started looking for her as it was late.
“They eventually found her body floating about 500m from the crossing point. They retrieved the body and made a report to Kamativi police who attended the scene,” she said.
