PRIME MINISTER Morgan Tsvangirai is today expected to descend on Masvingo to mend rifts in his MDC-T party following divisive primary elections.

Top MDC-T officials confirmed the visit and said Tsvangirai would meet winners and losers of the recently-held primary elections in a bid to avoid losing the seats to Zanu PF in the polls that could be held on July 31.

An MDC-T team set up to probe the conduct of the primary elections late last month, reportedly unearthed irregularities in some constituencies.

However, MDC-T provincial secretary Tongai Matutu, MP for Masvingo Urban, played down the visit as routine.

“It is just a normal visit to prepare for elections. He will actually visit Chivi tomorrow (today) where there were no appeals or independent candidates,” Matutu said.

Last week, Tsvangirai embarked on similar trips to Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South where the MDC-T decision to impose MPs who defected from the rival MDC caused upheavals in the party.

Abedinico Bhebhe (Nkayi South), Njabuliso Mguni (Lupane East), Norman Mpofu (Bulilima West), Nomalanga Khumalo (Umzingwane) and Zinti Mnkandhla (Gwanda North) defected to the MDC-T and were awarded with tickets to contest in the parliamentary elections without going through primaries.
