In a statement, MDC spokesman Nhlanhla Dube said they felt let down by an election outcome which was difficult to fathom.

“We salute and pay tribute to all our candidates across the width and breadth of the country who fought a good fight, but who at this moment feel extremely let down by an election outcome that is clearly difficult to comprehend,” he said.

“We also thank our members and supporters who have stood by the party, its values and principles in the most trying of times.

“We salute you for your boldness, and exhibiting the MDC spirit of indomitability and indefatigability.”

Ncube came third in the Presidential poll, behind President-elect Robert Mugabe and MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai while the MDC party lost all contested parliamentary seats.
