A MASVINGO veteran journalist and former Daily News Masvingo bureau chief, Energy Bara, has thrown in his hat for the Masvingo mayoral post, it has been learnt.
Report by Tatenda Chitagu
Bara, who stood for elections as a council candidate on an MDC-T ticket in Ward 1 in Masvingo Urban, but lost to Zanu PF’s Gashia Mundondo, confirmed that he is eyeing the post. Others in the race from the MDC-T include incumbent alderman Femius Chakabuda, former MDC-T Masvingo district chairman David Charirwe and the party’s provincial chairman Wilstuff Sitemere.
Chakabuda confirmed his interest, saying he had already submitted a curriculum vitae (CV).
“It is true. When our party called for CVs, I submitted one,” he said.
Charirwe could not be reached for a comment, although reliable information shows that he had also submitted a CV.
Sitemere’s phone went unanswered.
From Zanu PF, there are two candidates who are reportedly vying for the post, although the MDC-T is likely to prevail, as the party won six of the 10 council wards. The two councillors in President Robert Mugabe’s party interested in the post are Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe president Lovemore Mufamba and Gashia Mundondo.

Mundondo could not be reached for comment, while Mufamba confirmed his interest in the post.
“Of course I am my party’s candidate, but the going is tough,” he said.
“We do not have the majority in council and the probability of me winning is very low.”
