GOLFER Brendon De Jongé earned his biggest pay-cheque on the United States PGA Tour this season after rallying to an impressive tie for ninth position at the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton Massachusetts, US on Monday.

The Deutsche Bank Championship which was played from Friday to Monday was the second tournament of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Play-off series and carried a handsome prize of eight million dollars.
The US-based Zimbabwean professional went home with a cool $208 000 to eclipse the $207 700 he walked away with on his way to a tie for sixth position at the Waste Management Phoenix Open way back in March.
The Harare-born golfer, who is hoping to be part of Nick Price’s Internationals team for the President’s Cup completed his Deutsche Bank Championship campaign in style with an impressive five -under-par 66 to post 15-under 269 after earlier rounds of 69, 65 and 69.
He finished six shots behind the eventual winner Henrik Stenson from Sweden who tied the tournament record at 22-under 262 to finish two shots ahead of American veteran Steve Stricker.
The 33-year-old De Jongé, who was tied for ninth alongside England’s Ian Poulter, US PGA Champion Jason Dufner and American Roberto Castro, played brilliant golf in Boston, dropping just two shots, one in the first round on Friday and the other one during Monday’s final round.
After this weekend’s outing, De Jonge will be hoping that he did enough to impress Price, expected to name his captain’s pick for the internationals’ President’s Cup team to play against the US from October 1-6 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
