FIVE Evelyn Girls’ High School students have formed an all-female gospel group — Teenage Gospel Choir — vowing to make an immediate impact in the country’s cutthroat, music industry.

The girls, all Form Two students are: Vuyisile Mayisa (14), Tatenda Mawaya (15), Tisha Tawo (15), Runyararo Murape (15), Kwenzakwenkosi Ndebele (15) and Kudzaishe Murabada (15).
The seemingly confident girls said their family backgrounds have played a major role in their fledging music careers.
“Our Christian background influences our music. We all grew up in God-fearing families and through gospel music, we increase our faith and also manage to preach the gospel especially to other fellow youths,” Mayisa, spokesperson for the group, said.
She revealed that the girls started choral music last year and have written eight songs.
Mawaya, another group member added: “We have been practicing these songs and it sounds good. All we need now is sponsorship to pay for recording so that we could work on an album.”
Some of the songs the girls have compiled so far include Awesome God, Ngandirarame, Lord dear Lord, and Faith.

Ndebele, another group member chipped in: “Our families are not financially stable and we realised that God gave us talents to use so that we could help our parents. At the same time we are looking forward to go to university.”
The girls said they were inspired by South African musician Rebecca Malope.
“We thank God. We believe in whatever God gives us. So we should use the talent wisely. We have voices and all we need is money for recording and we are calling for well-wishers to help,” Mawaya added.
