ARMY-SIDE Buffaloes stormed into the quarter finals of Mbada Diamonds Cup following the penalty shoot-out victory over Black Mambas at Rimuka Stadium yesterday.

Steven Sibanda, Shepherd Nkata, Phillip Thambani and Bonvolio Mukwenha were on target from the spot for the soldiers while Tsepo Ranthokoane and Honey Chimutimunzeve missed spot-kicks for Black Mambas.

Tendai Chinungo and Godfrey Mangani’s converted spot-kicks sandwiched Chimutimunzeve and Ranthokoane’s missed kicks for Mambas.

The match had ended 1-1 after regulation time with Buffaloes drawing first blood in the 54th minute.

Black Mambas, however, equalised seven minutes later through Innocent Nyoni’s header.

“We told the boys to attack from the first whistle and our aim is to reach the final,” Masachi said.

Black mambas assistant coach Martin Bonongwe said it was unfortunate that his side lost after the penalty shoot-out.

“I think it was a 50-50 match. It is unfortunate that we lost the match. However, I would like to congratulate Buffaloes for winning the match, “he said.

The match was an even affair until the end of regulation time, which then led to the penalty shoot-out. Wonder Sithole was voted man -of-the-match.
