FOUR people died on the spot after a vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road, hit a tree and overturned several times before landing on its left side at the 108km peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road on Monday, police have confirmed.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said the accident happened at around 2pm after the driver of the Isuzu commuter omnibus failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the road for about 150m before hitting a tree and overturning.

“The driver Remigio Dhima (30) was driving along Ngundu-Tanganda Road with nine passengers on board. He lost control at the 108km peg and veered off the road, travelled for 150m in the bush, hit a tree and the vehicle landed on its left side after overturning several times throwing other passengers outside in the process,” Zhanero said.

He said four passengers died on the spot while five others were injured.

The bodies are at Chiredzi Hospital mortuary and the injured were admitted to the same hospital.

The police identified the deceased as Saikano Muyambo (32) ,Neria Sango (50), Simbarashe Chauke (30) and Chapu Anderson (age not given).
