Oscar Dodzo (32) pleaded guilty to a charge of escaping from lawful custody when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Merlyn Mutshina and was convicted and sentenced to eight months, which were wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that earlier this month, Dodzo and Kudakwashe Manatsa were arrested at the corner of 6th Avenue and Lobengula Street in Bulawayo at around 3:30am in connection with a robbery they had allegedly committed.

It is the State case that the two tried to run away during the arrest, but Dodzo fell while trying to scale a security wall near McKeurtan Primary School and sustained head injuries.

He was taken to UBH bleeding profusely and admitted under police guard.

On admission, Dodzo was put on a drip while being guarded by constables Mararike and Chipfira. Dodzo escaped from hospital wearing just his underwear and was seen by members of the public at around 5pm going to his place of residence which was not stated in the court.
