Elphas Malinga (57) of NRZ Compound in Shangani was not asked to plead to a theft charge when he appeared before magistrate Takunda Witness Mtetwa sitting at Mbembesi Circuit Court.

He was remanded out of custody to tomorrow for trial.

It is the State’s case that between 2012 and May 2013, Malinga, the station foreman, took quarry dust belonging to NRZ for use at his Harmony Farm in Fort Rixon.

The offence was discovered on May 14 by NRZ security guard David Chibade who found loads of quarry dust at Malinga’s stand.

Chibade reported the matter to the police, leading to Malinga’s arrest.
