The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to October 25 by Gwanda regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza.
Allegations against the man, who was employed as a domestic worker in Esigodini at the time of the alleged offence, are that on July 31 at around 2pm, the girl was sent by her mother to fetch water from a local river about a kilometre away from their homestead.
The State says the girl encountered the man standing by the footpath.
It is alleged that he grabbed her and dragged her into the bush where he raped her once.
The matter came to light when the girl’s mother followed her daughter to the river, but could not find her.
She then saw her approaching and upon inquiring why she had taken long to get to the river, the girl narrated her ordeal.
