The elite camp is the centerpiece of MLB’s African programmes and has been extremely successful in helping to develop the region’s best players and coaches.
Since it started in 2011, 66 players from seven countries have attended the elite camp.
Zimbabwe Baseball Association President Mandishona Mtasa confirmed that they had already sent a list of players with their fielding and batting statistics as well as the running times to the MLB Europe and Africa office in London.
He also established that his office was yet to receive feedback of players who have qualified for the elite camp.
“I can confirm that we have sent names of the players we think can make the grade, but we will know by the end of the month who would have made it to the elite camp and we are hoping all of them will qualify,” Mtasa said.
“In 2011, three of the players made it to the inaugural Major League Baseball elite camp and last year we could not send any because of reasons beyond our control. But this time we are hoping to have a lot of our players there,” Mtasa added.
