Ndlovu was injured after falling awkwardly in a charity soccer match held to raise money for the Gwanda Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund at Phelandaba Stadium in Gwanda on Sunday.

Ndlovu’s spokesman Nqobizitha Ncube confirmed that the mayor had a knee operation on Tuesday.

“He has undergone a minor surgery on his knee and doctors are still assessing him to see if he can be discharged,” Ncube said.

Ndlovu, who featured for Gwanda Legends in a curtain raiser match to the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund trophy final limped off midway through the second half with a dislocated knee and torn ligaments after losing his balance and falling awkwardly in an attempt to control an aerial ball.

X-ray results showed that Ndlovu’s knee kerb had moved upwards and positioned itself over the thigh bone.

He will be out of office for some weeks while he recovers.
