FORMER Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Maphios Cheda is wrapping up cases he partially heard before leaving in August.

A Bulawayo High Court official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not cleared to speak to the media, yesterday confirmed Cheda’s presence at the court.
“It’s true that he is here to finish his partly heard matters. He left some cases unfinished and the matters could not be given to another judge, so it made sense that he come back and finish them,” the official said.
“He’s not the only one who has come back to deal with matters. Judge Justice Nicholas Ndou and judge Justice Francis Bere are also hearing cases they left hanging.”
Justice Cheda’s departure and that of Justice Ndou had left the Bulawayo High Court bench with a complement of only three judges, justices Lawrence Kamocha, Martin Makonese and Andrew Mutema.
However, a new judge, Justice Nokuthula Moyo, has since been appointed to the Bulawayo High Court.
Justice Moyo was appointed a High Court judge five months ago.
