Nyathi died aged 36 at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo yesterday morning.

His brother, Brian, said he will be buried tomorrow at his rural home in Malitlou village in Gwanda South.

“We have lost a loved one and a bread winner in the family, we will forever remember him,” the elder brother said.

MDC-T Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Washy Sibanda said the party had lost one of its future leaders.

“He had the qualities of a leader and was a pillar of strength in the party, he always stood for the truth and he was very brave. Together with the family, we mourn the death of a gallant son,” he said.

Nyathi contested, but lost council elections in Gwanda during the July harmonised polls.

Meanwhile, former Ward 4 councillor Robert Banda of MDC passed away on Thursday.

Banda also lost his seat to Zanu PF during the harmonised polls.

Both Nyathi and Banda contested in the same ward during elections.
