Passers-by found the man (name withheld) hanging from a tree early yesterday morning and reported the matter to the police who came and retrieved his body.

The deceased man’s neighbour, Chester Nkala, told Southern Eye that the man had been drunk on the fateful day and they had last seen him heading home where he cohabited with his girlfriend.

“The couple always used to quarrel every time he came home late and drunk, and I’m surprised why he decided to take his own life this time around,” Nkala said.

“He hanged himself with a cloth. A knife he had taken from home was found on him. This is not the first time an incident of hanging has occurred in this area and we urge the police to investigate thoroughly as we suspect that some of them could be foul play,” Nkala added.

Efforts to get a comment from the police were unsuccessful as their phone went unanswered.
