Naaz vice-president Enias Nhoro told Southern Eye Sport that they will use the competition for their selection process.

“We are going to select the athletes who will represent the country in the regional cross-country in Botswana when we have our inter-provincial championships on February 8 in Harare,” he said.

“We are hoping to select 20 athletes from both the junior and seniors categories,” he said.

Most provinces have used their provincial competitions to choose athletes who will fight for top-spot in the different age groups against other provinces in Harare.

Nhoro said there is need for athletes who want to participate in Botswana to attend the event as it will be the only selection platform.

“We are urging athletes who are interested in talking part in the regional cross-country championships to come and take part in Harare. This is the only chance they will get to be selected. Provinces should now be ensuring that athletes enhance their performances in preparation for the Inter-provincials,” he said.

The athletes will feature in the 6km race for junior women, 8km for senior women and junior men while the 12km race is for senior men.

He said they are hoping to send a full contingent of athletes to Botswana.

“We want to send a full team to Botswana. But that will depend on whether we have the resources. It will be god if we can send a full team because we can get a better score as a country,” he said.

The Botswana trip is the first regional competition that the local athletes will participate in.
