According to salaries of town clerks released by Patrick Chinamasa last week, Mlilo’s inclusive monthly package amounted to $20 588 although most figures have been disputed by some local authorities.

Figures showed Mlilo is the second highest paid town clerk in the country after Harare’s Tendai Mahachi who pockets $23 313 a month.

Gwanda mayor Knowledge Ndlovu confirmed council was in the process of finalising the shortlisting of suitable candidates to take over the town clerk’s job. “We will shortlist applicants for interviews this week,”he said.

Southern Eye is reliably informed that among the 60 candidates who submitted their applications for the top post were some current senior council managers, bank managers and lecturers.

Notable applicants include incumbent chamber secretary Priscilla Nkala and former housing director Thuso Maphala.
