Thembelani Mdlaziba the co-founder of Vocal Ex said apart from the title track Sithi Uyingcwele, the 14-track album includes songs such as Mupfudziwangu and Ndinowuya.

The group held a debut concert at the Bulawayo Large City Hall in October last year. It has performed at various concerts including the most recent ZimPraise show held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Grounds.

Vocal Ex sung the national anthem at the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) ceremony held in Bulawayo in February and has performed at the National Arts Gallery at an event dubbed Voices in Colour.

According to Mdlaziba the group was founded in June 2013 after “a realisation that there is so much local musical talent being exported and boosting external industries while local industry suffers”.

He described Vocal Ex as an innovative and diverse choir of passionate young Christians “composed of the best undiscovered musical talent from various denominations across the country.”

The 30-member group was the brain child of Mdlaziba, Eric Moyo and Mkhululi Bhebhe.

Moyo won the Mnet East and Southern Africa Idols contest in July 2008 in which he signed a recording deal with Sony BMG.

Bhebhe was recently recruited into South Africa’s Joyous Celebration choir while Mdlaziba has worked with South African gospel artist Avis Ndlovu, a former Joyous Celebration choir member.
