ndlovu-sikhanyiso-Ndlovu, who is also the Zanu PF Bulawayo political head, said on Saturday that corruption among his party colleagues was so alarming that measures should be taken to eradicate it before it destroys the party.

“When we were at war, we never thought that some of our colleagues would turn out to be so corrupt. The looting; the corruption is so alarming to an extent that it leaves you wondering what one would be thinking,” Ndlovu said while addressing the Bulawayo Press Club to mark Africa Day.

“You wonder how they consume their loot and keep on looting. This corruption is a cancer that can destroy Zanu PF if it is not stopped. We should stop it now,” Ndlovu said.

President Robert Mugabe has also bemoaned corruption in Zanu PF and in the country in general and warned that anyone found to be involved in corruption and criminal abuse of office would be jailed.

However, little or no action has been taken against named corrupt officials, with analysts saying this was not surprising because there is a culture of impunity protecting Zanu PF chefs, even when they committed serious human rights abuses.

Shocking cases of widespread corruption have been exposed at several State institutions, including the public broadcaster, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and Air Zimbabwe, among others.

Former State Enterprises and Parastatals minister Gorden Moyo warned that the government would fail to deal with corruption saying it was institutionalised with military personnel being deliberately and strategically deployed to parastatals to milk them and raise funding for Zanu PF.

Zimbabwe has been rated among the most corrupt nations in Southern Africa by Transparency International. According to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, the country continues to lose billions to corruption annually.
